Hello VW Campers,
Anyone know where I can buy a front seal for a VW autosleeper conversion. My vehicle is a 1986 model and I need to buy a new seal but don't know where to get one.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Regards,
Chris

Hi Chris, it's always nice to welcome a fellow Auto-Sleeper owner to the forum.

You havn't said which seal you are looking for. I assume that being a 1986 high top model your camper is a 'Trident'. Are you referring to the seal around the high top where it is sealed to the roof? This is just a flexible bond/sealant which in many cases holds the roof on without any metal fastenings.
If you are talking about a different seal then please state which one.

Autosleeper Hi top seal
Hi Chris,
If it is the high top seal you are talking about, then on my A/S I removed it. Underneath the seal was a lot of muck, pop rivets and some rust. After removing rivets and treating the rust I injected with adhesive, smoothed off and painted. Have had no problems. I will do the back one when I get time. I am only just down the road from you if you want to come and have a look.

Hi Don,
Thank you very much for the advice, I to have removed the seal to find exactly the same as you, only a few holes where the rust has worked its magic. I've put mine into the garage to get repaired properly now, I had a window seal problem that I've noticed and I's surprised my front window never fell out. I have not got the van back yet, it's coming back Monday hopefully. I think I will be several hundred pounds lighter in my pocket as well.
I have some photos of my van uploaded, send me your email adddress and you can take a look and let me know what you think of it? I've had it three years just over now. Spent around £1350 in the last month without this new work which is being carried out.

It's the front seal at the top, where the High top joins the original roof. I have removed it now, there is loads of rust and crap up there. Repairing rust and holes and then doing as Don as mentioned below.

Perro
Hi there Perro,
I took the photo when I went to Southend the other week, I had actually just painted three of the panels in the morning and could not continue with any further work for the day, so headed out to the coast. I live in Bexleyheath and Southend is only thirty minutes down the road really.
I have only had the wheels about three weeks and they are great, I got them from JK's and the tyres come from Kwik Fits. They cost £750 in total but they are worth every penny.
I visiting Wales in two weeks time for four days, a place called New Quay but not the Newquay in Cornwall. I got confused with that one.
Put some pictures on of your camper. I'd love to see them.
Regards,
Chris
