What size wire should I use between the two batteries, either side of the relay, please?

big!! depends what you are going to fuse it at but get as big as you can, i generally use 6 or 10mm depending on what i happen to have in my works van at the time! you can get some good power cable from a car auido place, or if you can't find a good one there's always halfwits!

is the 'other' battery a leisure battery?

if so then theres info on the wiki on this. a 5 amp wire is fine assuming your just topping up the charge. ( a completly dead battery will draw alot)

if its for a backup starting battery, then yeah, you'll need the same mm2 as you see comming off your battery. as dave sez, the car audio boys are best for this stuff.

I went to a trailer place and got some 6mm twin core they use, worked a treat.
