A possible cheap (and more macho) plaything ?

Came across these on mobile.de

Swiss made "Saurer" trucks of very high quality and durability. 6 cylinder diesel, full syncromesh pneumatic assisted gearbox, 4 WD with difflocks, two way 6 ton motor winch, etc ...

The beauty is, these things are RHD (for the narrow Swiss mountain roads) and therefore a bit of a hard sell on the continent. Perfect examples with new TUEV going for between 4 k and 6 k (EURO !!).

I'm sorely tempted myself ...but I just don't have the space and time.

think i'd rather struggle winchin out a vitara or syncro than tryin to get that out when it got stuck.....................

It's got it's own center mount winch (front or rear winching possible) ...comes with 60 meter cable as well

have patience with me ...I've got a truck licence burning a hole in my pocket ...and at 4k for a fully equipped offroader ..who wouldn't be tempted? ( at least tempted?)

Certainly would make for a great overland support vehicle.. only trouble is you can get parts for Unimogs a lot easier....

The price is definately tempting, I'll pass it on to my friend who bought a fully kitted out Green goddess for £2k soley for the resion "at that price its rude not too".

Can't quite work out why RHD would make it easyer do drive on mountain roads though, doesn't matter where the wheel is, it eather fits on the road or rolls alot doesn't it?

LGV... for a rigid (dont know what the classes are anymore!!)
Its prob a 12 or 14 ton gross truck..

At that weight it sounds like you'd need a full blown cat C truck licance - ie for the biggest rigids you can get, 7.5t+

Ofcourse if its built before something like 1960, and your useing it as a toy (not loading it) you'll be able to drive it on a standard car licance! Furthermore if its built before 1947 you don't need to bother with MOT's and road tax will obveously be free aswell. The real question is, why don't I buy an AEC Matador? All I'd have to pay for is insureance and some diesel, actully thats probubly quite alot of diesel, and I've got no money, maybe thats the answer...one day!

Yes - I had a quick translation of the web page and most of these are around 7tonnes unladen and up to 13 tonnes laden. Phew .. got a legal reason to tell my lad NO WAY! Pity though .. I like the 3 way tipper / snow plough
