Broken cylinder head bolt...help please.

Post by drumnut182 »

I was taking off cylinder head yesterday and No.9 cylinder head bolt snapped! All the others came out fine but head doesnt want to come off now..i think it has jammed on there on that particular point as the rest of the head slides freely a bit from side to side so there is nothing else stopping it from coming off....assuming i get the head off has anyone got any tips as to what to do with the broken off bolt? it snapped off at the top about an inch down so there is still plenty on there...is it a heat job or a mullgrip job or have i buggered it!!?

Thanks
ROB

p.s i assume there would be nothing else stopping the head coming off like the valves or something? The reason i was taking it off in the first place was that the head i am sure is cracked somewhere as the oil is mixing wiv the coolant....i have levered it from every angle (gently) and it won't budge at the end where the bolt has snapped off even though the other end is loose....cant understand it. any ideas?

funny, i had the same thing happen to me yesterday . after pouring penatrating oil down the broken bolt hole and giving it a bit of a wiggle it came off.
now all ineed is a new head as this one has more cracks than you would bieive.

Yeah thanks for replies. Im gonna give it another go once the penetrating fluid has done its job a bit and ill bung the results on here...those heads seem to be so fragile...
