Ok so we we about to set off for the Chester meet when I noticed a Bl**dy nail in me tyre, not to get put off I set about changing it with the spare. When I lowered it down from the front I noticed a little bit of green liquid had collected in the rim.

I have a 1.6D (not turbo :( ) so even with my little knowledge wondered if it was something from the radiator (I assume that is coolant!!)

What do you think? What could have caused it? Is it serious and should I worry about a rather large repair bill??

On the subject of the tyre, is it possible for a tyre centre to repair the puncture - the thing is brand new - or is that more money down the drain?

It could be one of your flow&return hoses/clips to the rad requiring attention .Or a slight rad leak also check the bleed bolt on top of the rad is not leaking coolent.

sure its not overflow from screen washer tank - you filled it up recently ? when it overflows it comes out of top onto ground/chassis or where ever the wind blows it, and only a stones throw from spare tyre.

Tyre can be repaired IF the nail hasn`t gone through too near the edge of the tread and the sidewall. Take it and see, they can only say no.

Coolant leak, probably from the rad or pipes, run the engine until hot, with the spare wheel and carrier flapped down out of the way and have a crawl underneath with a torch and look for any drips, runs etc round all the pipes and clips and the bottom of the rad. Maybe also take off the 2 front grill and check the bleed screw that`s on the top left hand side of the radiator (as you look from the front), they are known to crack around where the bleed-screw threads into the rad, also look at the cooling fins/tubes in the front of the rad, any leaks should be obvious, being green, and also because it`s under pressure when the engine is hot. Feel the rad with your hand to see if it`s getting hot from top to bottom.

if the rad core is leaking(especially an older copper one) dont use rad weld type stuff, get a new rad or you will only postpone the problem till a later date.

it will be the heater valve leaking , lower the spare wheel carrier and get on ya back have a look up behind the rad , you should have mentioned it at the weekend , I did notice that you didnt have a spare ,

If by max you mean the dog, I sure it wasn't him. He certainly marked his territory on Saturday, but I think running 50 miles down the M56 and p*ssing on our spare wheel may have been a little beyond him :lol:

For a little dog he tried his best to scare our Sophie, she was so traumatised that she's been asleep on the sofa ever since!!!

Well I had a good look underneath yesterday, I could see a small amount of liquid on one of the thicker pipes (assume these are the flow/return pipes?!) The liquid had run down one of the thinner pipes from what I assume was the heater valve and had dropped onto the thick pipe. However there was nothing obvious, no splits, tears, loose bits etc and I couldn't see anything wrong with the valve. I rubbed my hand over it but couldnt find a wet spot.

I checked the coolant levels which was bob on, so I think for now I'll just have to keep an eye on it.

If anyone has any other suggestions they'll be greatly appreciated.

the valve leaks were the fitting enters the body of the valve housing , if that makes any sence ,
start it up and while your under there get t'other half to slide the heater on to cold and then hot a few times , see if it shows anything
