I was just wondering if it is a good idea to post up ebay ads for syncros.

I've noticed a few comments on here about the so-called rising cost of syncs & T25's. Are we not being our own worst enemy by drawing attention to auction items?

While I can more than understand people wanting to be helpful to fellow members who may be on the look-out for something, which on fixed price/buy it now, newspaper or auto trader ads would be fine but to potentially get more of us bidding against each other in a niche market is great for sellers/dealers not for buyers.

A good point well put.. but there is a flip side to that coin.

Prices rising can be a good thing for those in ownership when the time comes to sell (housing market!!)

Knowledge (proper knowledge, not half hearted and then think you know everything etc) is a very good thing and can give you a much better idea of the position of the market.

I doubt that in the grand scheme of things (the Type 25 market is HUGE) that my posts will have any great influence on the price rise of Syncro's in Europe, afterall there are far more in Germany and I'd be suprised if anymore than 5 a year were imported to UK as a direct result of my postings.

As for members of 80-90 bidding against each other... well that would happen even without my posts, I can't do anything about it. If something is a bargain, then lots of people are going to want to buy.

Interesting points of view

I'm not saying I won't stop putting up the Ebay.de postings.

eesh, this topic could spark a long arguement . .

personally I think mike's posts about german syncro's, along with Matt's about uk 2wd vans, does nothing to push prices up, instead it adds flesh to other people's 'I've seen a similar van on ebay.de for half the price' comments. Plus, it gives us a pre-warning if a van's been on ebay.de for £2k and suddenly arrives in uk for sale at £5k we can all point fingers and laugh.

Neither Mike or Matt have anything to gain from posting up these adds so long may it continue. Hopefully people will learn from them, find out what's a reasonable price to pay and the rip off merchants will know they are advertising to an educated market on this site.

Lets hope though, the germans don't twig and advertise purely for UK sale. I'm sure these ad's will become obvious pretty quickly . . .

Of course it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, unless of course I find a misslisted potential bargain that no one else has noticed and after watching from behind an ebay lampost for a week it apears on here a day from the end and the price goes through the roof!! Then I get pissed but then it could be just a perception.

It's rubbish.......absolute rubbish.......unless of course you are selling up and not continuing the chain. Or you're stuck at the back of the queue and can't get on the bus cos you don't have the starting cash. We paid 49k for our house, which is now worth around 130k - but if we sell it, then we've got to live somewhere. Likewise, if I sell my van, I want to be able to buy another. The money is only there on paper unless you're gonna time it all to buy low and sell high - in which case you're a trader by any other name.....do you want your van as a vehicle or an investment? There's a huge difference and your money would be better placed in stamps, premium bonds or ceramic models of victorian ladies off the back of the TV section of your Sunday paper......

Surely we are all smart enough to use search tools, so there's no point in listing vans that are available to buy on this board. It just increases the tyre kickers and makes the seller think there's more interest than there actually is (and hardens the price).

If someone wants a specific van then they will go hunt for it (it's one of the characteristics of a VW fanatic).

If they don't want something specific then they'll hunt for a good buy..... and that's not one that's been listed on here - as Euan says a listing on here means it'll go for more ££ than if it isn't.

The best buys take place in quiet transactions, rather than those splurged all over here. Unless it's your van to sell shut up and leave the market to do it's own thing.

Maybe we should listen to someone who has actually bought a van using the ebay.de listings rather than those who just want to have a go... for having a go.

Jen, if everyone who sold their house, using the rise in the housing market as funds to buy somewhere better was a dealer, then everyone in a house would be a dealer... if you have a syncro now.. and the prices go up... why is that a problem for you? your van will increase in value with the rest so you will always have a van to be able to sell to buy the next one.

If someone is looking for a syncro, in UK or abroad, then they will want to view every advert possible. All I have done is put all the syncro's on ebay.de on one list which is easier to read rather than trawling through 5 pages of listings, potentially missing one.

MG I can see your intentions are coming from the right place but.......

I just wanted to point out your wrong on the housing (thus van) market
A rising market is only good for people getting out of the market.
To use simple numbers;...

If you house is worth £100k..........new house worth £150k
You need to find,beg,borrow,(sell soul)...£50k
market rises 100%
your house now worth £200k......but next house worth £300k
You now have to find £100k!!

Bring it on!!!!

They are rubbish... no use off road what so ever.... cant even go on road very well.. very unreliable and expensive to fix (Oh yeah that can be true!!)
