2e3 carb on a DF

Post by beachiain »

I've got bad problems with my carb and cold starting, sounds like it's running on 2 or 3 cyl's for the first few minutes, gentle throttle makes it splutter out bud foot hard down makes it roar away (as much as it's possible for a 1.9wbx to) I've read the wiki and there's a couple of things I'm going to try out, carb heater and vacuum.

Out of curiousty, I was looking at the haynes bible for help, and it states that 1.9DF engine would have a pict 34 on it, mines got a 2E3, does anyone know if that's normal and if not whether it's going to give me problems? :?
When it stops making that noise I'll be worried. That means it's fallen off.

P.S.

P.S. once it's warmed up it runs fine, though suspect the mixture might be a bit rich. It's an '84 caravelle, RHD, 1.9wbx DF code, recent plugs, leads, air filter, air freshener and CD holder :)

Loads of DF engines are runnig on 2e carbs. No probs, except the 2e carbs are all beginning to show their age. You could fit a pair of 34 ICTs with type 3 manifolds on there and get one hell of a difference in performance.

It depends if the DF has DG heads as the DF has smaller inlet ports on the heads.
It would work, however it would work much better with DG heads too.

thanks for the input :D

Any hints on how to tell if it's DG heads would be appreciated. As far as I know it's been reconned at some point though don't know exactly what was done

Either way I've got a cold weekend of figuring out the puzzle that is the disconnected/loose hanging/butchered wiring and vacuum pipes that's back there, didn't want to lounge around the house, with coffee/beer, heat, TV anyway

The ports on the bottom of your manifold will be about 10mm deeper than the DF heads and same width.
