As spotted those vans are a rip off of the old VE6 model transits from the late 80's. That ones probubly very much inspired by the county 4x4 version a bit like the one in baxters picture (though that one pictured is the last facelift so probubly has indipendant front suspension, something county adopted much later than the 2wd versions. All the russain ones had the old front beam axle setup. Probubly how they got hold of the design as despite a 90's transit looking a bit like an 80's one, they are infact very different underneath.

One in the picture is a New gen.
Not sure of running gear on those, although the earlier MKIII were fairly crude, we had a Transit recovery truck at a garage I worked it, it was truly awful, I managed to snap it in half while doing a recovery up a lane in the moors.
I hated it, and had to MOT for the owner, so i dogged it on as much as possible hoping he would get shut of it, but no, it got repaired.
Right 'kin nightmare to get parts for too.
back axle was transit, front was county if I remember.
To make it worse it had a 2.0l Pinto in it with a VV carb, utter dog sh!t.
I still see a few new gen panel vans around here for YEDL.

Seen some of them around, starting to get a bit old for fleet vehicles still in survice as they stopped makeing the base van in 2000, though I belive county would convert a 2wd if you asked nicely. Probubly not worth doing now as the base transit would now be nearly 8 and so starting to rust nicely.

I guess YEDL haven't replaced them as theres not much to replace them with at the moment. Every now and them ford surgest they might make a 4wd but that'll probubly be something like the T5 4motion. Merc sprinter 4x4's existed in small numbers but I don't think the new version comes in that form. The resion you didn't see many sprinter 4x4s is because, depending on which 4wd system you chose (you could have perminant of part time) you'd be adding £8k to £9k to the price over that of the normal rear wheel drive! A syncro is a bargan in comparison!

Have worked on gazelles in azerbaijan . They are truly horrible and very dated. Mechanically they are very crude and If I remember correctly they had volga petrol engines. Not quite as bad as an Iranian saipa pick up though. :)
