Fitting new discs, New wheel bearings too??

Post by wasserleaker »

got some shiny new Brembo front discs from GSF to fit to replace the warped and worn old uns, is it a skimp/false economy to re-fit the 'old' bearings if they show no signs of wear and were fine with the old discs??
obviously the grease seal will get replaced, pads too. i can press the old bearings out at work, i read on the forum that some brands are suspect and not much good, so would it be it as well to re-fit and regrease my existing ones as they're ok? ta for any opinions. also, is the old trick of swapping the nuts over from left to right, so that a 'new' part of the nut can be peened over as on some other cars i've worked on, or is it better to put new ones on? thanks!

Replaced bearings and seals when I changed the discs. Seem to remember the nut came with the kit but there was a note in the instructions that said nut can be reused two or three times.
I supopose it all depends if the previous 'staking' of the nut lines up with the groove in the stub axle when all is tightened up.
Replace with new, the nut doesn't cost a lot, a wheel coming off will definitely spoil your day

Just done the same job today, problem is GSF list the discs as changing from june 1986 and the bearings changing june 1984 :? And guess what , mine had two different stub axles on either side so I had to use different size bearings  Still at least I got club 80 90 discount :D
