Put my van in to get the choke sorted today as it was sticking on. So the garage replaced the choke pull off unit and the thermostat. The reason I put it in was because the tickover was running high (and choke sticking on). Anyway after I collected it the van ran good (to be honest it allways did) but the tickover was stll high.
Now the tickover starts ok but when I pull up at a traffic light it cuts out. I have to drive abour 6 miles before it ticks over normal (still high)
I cant adjust it on the carb anymore as the tickover is fully out.
What to do. Anyone got a really good carb for a 1900 dg 1985
Any help would be sooo great.
Sherlock.

Can only suggest to check all airlines and brake servo pipes as an extra air intake could lead to high tick-over. Other than that check the timing, could be to far advanced and this can cause a high idle rate.
The carbs butterfly valve could be worn or not centred properly and this would allow more air/fuel mixture through also.

take it back and tell they havent fixed it properly....
sounds like they have either backed off the choke actuator a bit far or adjusted the idle screw on the choke cam too far..
the idle screw on the carb doesnt screw out to raise the idle, it screws in....
these carbs need setting up carefully.. and if any components are worn out will upset the way they work.. ie pull down units, the vac hoses etc
