if i am reading it right the grey/green should only has 2 female spade and one connects to 'G9' where does the other go?

the green/red should be connected to 'G10' that kinda makes sense to me !

Never seen a wireing diagram for a headlamp washer but I can tell you G9 is the numberplate lamps (side lights circuit) and G10 is the front screen washer. So that explains why those seemingly odd functions were worthy of a G terminal! (I was wondering that as I'm very sad). Its possable if one wire has a spare terminal conector hanging out of it its there so another device can use the plug if needed, if somethings already useing the required terminal it can be conected through this, if nothings already useing it just let it dangle there, it could ready for something you don't [yet] have.

A good place to take a live from (terminal 30) is to go from one of the many P terminals , also on the back of the fusebox.

Based on the sound of it the headlamp washer will be operate when you use the windscreen washer but only if the sidelamps are on - seems resionable.

How many pins does the relay have? What are they called? Guess it must be more than your average 4 pin relay?

Edited because I'm a numpty and wrote the wrong word down, ofcourse it'd work off the front screen wash!

Being as it seems to have a fancy control relay rather than a normal relay, theres a chance it'll only activate the headlamp washers once every few windscreen washes when the lights are on, not every time; Certainly the way many modern cars washer systems are operated, guess it must be to reduice washer fluid consumption - VW must have thought headlamp washers get through a hell of alot more fluid considering the extra capacity of the tank.

i'd say that the one with 2 wires will give you the option to switch it from 2 different places maybe? perhaps one from rear wash wipe and the other from front wash wipe? may be wrong but it kinda makes sense so that any time you use a wash/wipe function it washes yer headlights, but only when the lights are on?

I DID IT ALL ON ME OWN YESTERDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wasnt as hard/scary as i thought! wiring diagram in Haynes manual was easy to follow ( is number 164 ish going by the numbers on bottom of page under wiring tracks)

fuse box pulled off easy to get to back .

'short' red wire went to one of the P terminals(top left as you look at it) , brown to earth spider , t'other red to pump , and the 2 colourds go on G9 and G10 ( bottom right of board as you look at it)

as you say , only works when lights are on ! tested pump dry (very briefly) and all is well . just gonna fit tank tomoz now and plumb in !!

oh , nothing pugged onto G9 so left it dangling  pump operates every time with screen washers . the pump is at least twice the size of screen pump and runs through 10mm hose  im guessing thats why it is a 6 litre tank  :D

can post piccies for anyone equally as thick as me if it helps in future

Yes I think the pump must surply a fair old blast presure!

Thinking about the spare G9 lights conection, I wonder if your washer system came from someone breaking Scandanavian spec vans? I think that must be where most washer systems must come from as they don't seem that common in the UK atleast. I think by law vehicles had to have headlamp washers in that market so would be a good source for them, also by law they would have had Daytime running headlamps too so maybe the spare conection would have been for that?

So then, how well do they work and is it worth it?

came from CJ at stinkospares so good possibility it was/is swedish. ref -your earlier comment - i think there is a timer in the relay (when i first tested pump i wired it straight to 12v ) it activates for maybe a second or so .

did final fitting today , tank /pipework to tank etc . the only real problem was the screen pump , the bigger tank sits lower so the tube from the screen pump is stretched to the max - ever tried replacing it all the way to the T piece under the dash WITHOUT removing the dash ?

havnt got the non return valve yet so have got a T piece behind the grill thats facing up/vertical to stop the water running back - at least i keep the lines behind the grill full and the water dosnt run back to the tank.

as for was it worth it ? DEFFINITELY . the jest are huge, 10mm hose from tank and the pump is 3 times the size of the screen pump . the washers activating are akin to a soap and water filled shotgun being pointed at the lights.
i purposely havent cleaned lenses for 2 days and they were thick with road grime/salt etc . 4 or 5 blasts saw em 'as new' and spotlessly clean. :D
