Apparently it is part of the complete light switch and should still be available from VW

I have problems with my dimmer also (either full on or dark) ...just haven't got round to ordering one yet.

It is part of the whole switch. It cant be separated. The whole thing just plugs into a multiplug though so its very handy to replace. No harder than replacing a relay actually.

Only telling you what I was told by other people ...according to them it's a replace the whole switch job

Don't think there's a separate fuse for the dimmer ...but could be wrong.

No there wouldnt be a fuse for the dimmer. It runs off the lighting circuit. Yes the switch and dimmer are all one unit. Theyre inseperable. Its just a case of unplugging the multiplug from the back of the old one, uncliping the old one, clipping in the new one and plugging in the multiplug.

If you don't want the dimming facility just bypass it, tap into the sidelight output from the switch itselft

VAGCAT says the switch is 17.8 Euros .. so around £13.50 ... there are a few part numbers so worth checking with VW parts dept (If VAGCAT gives a part price, then it is normally still available) .. in fact I would take out the current switch and look for a part number on it.

Hope this helps :D

Just checked with VW parts ... the price is £18.50 .. ouch .. make sure you get the right part - there are 3 possible ones depending on the chassis number

Good luck!

I spoke to my mate at my local VW Van Parts Department - he checked the computer base for the UK and found they were in stock.

Make sure you contact a Van Centre Parts - more helpful usually than car parts.

Cheers

This sounds like a really useful tip -
how would you actually do it?

There seems to be a grey/blue wire leaving the dimmer switch...? where would it go - and would it stay on w the lights when 'bypassed'? -

be good to know more
