ok, this might be a really 'duh' question - but I know nothing about Aircooled engines...

My van, minty (82 Aircooled) has been stood while we 'tart' her up, we started her up today for the 1st time in about 8 weeks (to see if she would more than anything) and there was a torrent of water falling from under the engine bay. Now I've kind of guessed that its rain, and Nigel confirmed that the last time he looked at the engine there was water sitting on top of it, so.....

1. is this normal?
2. how does the water get in there?
3. will it damage the engine in any way?
4. if so, how do i stop it

again, i apoligise if i'm being really thick ! ( i'm not blonde, honest!) :whistle

Yes

With all the rain we been having lately It will have been driven in through the vents and collected on all flat surfaces, think on the bright side you probably have well sealed engine tin ware.

NO

You dont really
