How can I tell without taking the head off if I need a two or three hole headgasket?
Should I just buy both and take the unused one back?
Also can't for the life of me find the engine number!
AAAGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Engine number can be very hard to see, if it`s actualy there. Easier once the head`s off
Notches, look at the edge of the gasket sticking out of the joint face just behind the injection pump (above where the engine number should be!) and you may well be able to see the bit of gasket that has the notches punched out of it`s edge.

Keep it real.

Ok so the big day arrived today. Time to take off the head and change the gasket.
Thought I'd replace valve stem oil seals as well and lap in all the valves while the heads off.
So managed to break free the head bolts and lo and behold managed to snap the head off one..front right nearest fuel pump.
AGHHH!!!!
It would appear that some tw@t in the past has Red Loctited this bolt in place..god only knows why.
So now the head won't come off over this broken bolt. All the others are free!
Back to the drawing board first thing in the morning.......
