Any one give me some advise fitting gauges to my 1.9AAZ syncro
and my 2.1 DJ (GAY)
I have bought 2 sets of gauges from an Audi Coupe
Gauges are oil temp 170 oil pressure and volts
I need advise on the senders and were to fit them to both the
AAZ and the 2.1
The senders are available from VW
OIL TEMP 049 919 563B 12.43 + VAT M10 thread
OIL PRESSURE 035919561A 60.25 + vat M10 thread
Does anybody else sell them
and where do I tap them into
on the 2.1 do I need the adapter hose between the pushrods
Advise on mounting
I have seen some mounted in individual pods like JK sell
and one set mounted in a dash Tray (blue wbx6 van)

As our vans have the VW dual oil-pressure warning system, which you want to keep, you'll need a sender that adds a linear signal and keeps either the low or high pressure switch (~0.3 and ~0.9bar respectively). VDO do suitable senders (eg. like this), with M10 fine threads. Alternatively, you can use a t-piece adapter and keep the original sender.
You then need to fit the sender to the appropriate point on your engine, replacing the existing switch. On the wasserboxer, access between the pushrods tubes is too tight to fit the sender directly so you may need an M10x1 extension hose, available from your local goodridge supplier who can make one up to suit, or from Baxter.
For oil temp, I have used VDO sump-plug senders on both my vans. You may be able to work out how to fit one of the M10 ones somewhere (eg. oil filter housing the the TD), I couldn't.
For cabling, I ended up running heavy-duty trailer cable between the engine bay and dashboard, and used a couple of lines from that with several spares for future use. Mount the gauges however suit you. On my pickup, I have a heavy-duty ABS dash tidy, and simply cut three holes in the front of that.

I think there is also some words of wisdom about oil monitoring on the Brickwerks info pages.
For the volt meter (and anyother guages that need power really), if you don't want to cut any wires, you should be able to pick up a feed from the back of the fusebox...(Info based on a diesel fusebox, petrol ones might be different)
Terminal G2 or G5 - fed by fuse 18, serves brake warning lamp, igniton switched (pin 15)
Terminal G1 or G3 - fed by fuse 12, rear heater blower, load reduction switched (pin X, like pin 15 but also cuts out when the starter motor is running to help the battery)
Terminal G8 - dimable dash ilumination. (possubly already in use but you could make a patch lead to take a spur off it).
Theres the main front earth points behind the fusebox aswell, some will be free, give them a clean while your at it to get brighter headlights and such!
All of those terminals should accept a normal 6.3mm female blade terminal so you should be able to do a really tidy job tapping into them with no wire cutting!

Fitting Gauges oil
Oil temp in the sump.
Check the sender and make sure it is compatible with a 170 gauge as the most common one is 150, considering the temp should ideally be 80 for optimum running.
Pressure gauge is the same as well, I think you'll have the 5 bar one but then vdo do one that goes up to 10bars. As far as I know the sender is compatible.
Just changed mine for new modern ones, that don't tell porkies.
