Hello and buying advice please

Post by zanettie »

Hi there, I'm a new member although I did post on here about 18 months ago when my T4 camper was stolen :( Sadly it never turned up and I have been driving an Astra since then, but I've decided the time has come to get another camper. I also owned a T2 for 8 years, so my heart is really with VWs.

I'm seriously considering buying a T25 this time. I've seen a couple of really nice examples pootling about locally and have been quite taken with them. I'm after any advice that the experts on here can give about the pros and cons of owning a T25, eg. the sort of problems to look out for, best engines, ideas about fuel consumption ... anything really.

I'd be really grateful for any hits and tips :)

Oh yes, if anyone knows any contacts in the South Manchester/Stockport area please let me know.

Thanks very much.

Get one with as good a body as you can find, engine depends on what you are after really. diesel/td/ 1900 or 2.1 petrol. manual or auto. Really down to personal preference but try to find on with history, good paint and little or no rust on the seam/ steps and rear arches is where they really rot, engines all have there different problems and every one will have a differnet view. Mine is a 2.1 petrol and auto and is heavy on the fuel but cruises at 70 easiyl and is a real pleasure to drive but although I fix it my self the repair bills are pretty steep sometimes.

No Dave, most genuine VW fans are sticking with the T25/T3 :D

The ''odd'' one or two are buying the front engined vans but most are sticking with proper VWs! :D

I've heard T25/T3 have more room as T4 has setback windscreen, but T4 is better on the road.

Saw a vote thread on all VW t1, t2, t25/t3, t4 & t5 vans. T3/T25 and T4 got majority of the votes and it was a very close race between them. Last I looked T4s had a few more votes. Surprised me, but was very close. Can't find thread now.

Mate has a split and was building a t25 to sell. Now he's selling his split and keeping the t25.
