Front CV help..
Got a knocking from the front right of my 16"
The prop shaft has some play in it ie i can wobble it back and forth, the knocking came on very quickly and is getting worse fast. Loudest when accelerating and also when braking tho i can now still here it when coasting. Definitely wheel speed not engine speed. How do i know which one it is? Which one is the bad one to get hold of? Can i do it myself with NO knowledge of mechanics on a 30 degree drive?!!!

if it is an outer CV then dont drive it.. if it colapses then it will lock up the wheel and then you can imagine what forces will go through the front diff and transmission..
It could be the prop or an inner cv, but they usually show up a bit differently..
Is it clicking real bad when you turn on full lock?
Please fill out your profile so we know where in the world you are and can suggest who may be near to you that can help..

...as long as we're not confusing CV's and VC's here, nothing too serious

When my front CV joint failed to the point where it was clicking (more like banging) like a metronome with speed, the ofending joint wasn't too hard to spot.
The joint wasn't holding the driveshaft properly enableing me to rattle the shaft in my hand, they should only move axually and not by alot. Other clues are loose or leaking CV boots. Turned out the cage holding the BB's in the joint had actully disintergreaded completely making what happens next very unpredictable, it could lock up so the only option is don't drive it at all till fixed (or the ofending parts have been removed).

Is the Bentley manual in the wiki?
No, the Bentley is a heavyweight workshop manual, secondhand or new for about £55 from JK and others...
Yes you'll need a bit more than allen keys and spanners although depends how comprehensive your spanner kit is.
