HELP Insurance hell!!!
Can anyone advise please. I'm changing our suzuki for a T3 in a couple of weeks so I've just spent my lunch hour on the phone to direct line thinking it would be easier to carry our existing policy over. how wrong could I be!
They've never heard of a T3 or a type 25, and to compound the misery, ours started life as a multivan and has been converted from a donor westy california.
The closest they could come was for a Caravelle pre 94 (the choice was either pre94 or post 94 which concerned me as they stopped making them in 91 didn't they?). They have a listing for a caravelle and a caravelle motorhome, so they've taken it as the former which has been modded to the latter. Does that sound right? Obviously it needs to be spot on with insurance otherwise I'm in trouble if I ever need to claim.
I know it would be safer to go to a specialist but it's easier to stay put if I can - strangely they said the premium is £1 per month more than our nasty Suzuki Wagon R.
Any advice welcome please!

Yep, give HIC (Herts Insurance) a call... they are very very good, both my T25 and Alfa are insured through them... for the last 4 years!

They are really good with modifications etc... if your a member of 80-90 let them know as you'll get some discount...
100% recomended!

I have lots of insurance with CIS (Cooperative insurance services). I have ISA'S, mortgage protection, life insurance, pension, house and contents and sickness insurance. When I tried to insure my T25 with them they asked if the van had been modified from new. I explained that it was a campervan so had therefore been worked on from new! They said "Sorry, we don't insure modified vehicles!". Silly bast*rds!!! They quoted £100 more for a non modified Caravelle than Adrian Flux quoted for a home converted camper! Suppose "the truth will out" when it comes to a claim!
Guess who is losing my custom when insurance comes up for renewal!

When i first got my T25 it had been used as a plumbers van.A bare interior but side windows fitted.I insured it with HIC over a period of time i have fitted out the van with a rock&roll seatbed & extra seats that fold down to form a bed.I informed HIC and submitted picts to tell them of changes.Recently i obtained a full length devon side elevation roof and had it fitted which means cutting the roof.Again i informed HIC and sent some photos with the roof fitted on the van. There has been no problem with HIC with regard to insurance there is a max seating which is 7 adults and as there is no cooker or wash basin it is not insured as a camper but as a transporter van.I confirmed with them that the roof will sleep adults but was told as it had no cooker or wash basin it would be insured as a transporter van.I would suggest you try HIC. Oh no engineers report was asked of me when these changes where made.

if it is a camper now, insure it as a camper, what it was before is not your concern.
get the logbook changed over too, there are other issues with non `motorcaravan` classes, such as seat belts, speed restrictions and premiums, so get it changed to `twin axel, ridgid bodied motor caravan`
tell them the log book is incorrect, and that the previous owner didn't realise untill you pointed it out when you bought it, they should change it for free when they reissue it in your name.
