So today has been spent dropping my poorly engine out, due to what I thought was a dropped valve, however before I've even had a chance to remove the head in question I've noticed its cracked on the casing around the studs/bolts, so I'm assuming thats my problem.
Is this a common fault?
Is there anyway it can be repaired or am I dreaming?
I'm assuming its got to hot at some point, as the engine was a recon from Volks spares 4 years ago, with less than 25000 miles on it

Sorry no pic that will show the crack, I'll try to get one tomorrow.
Although I managed to snap a stud in the good head today,
I've read through the forums, and I see that you can't fit a 1600 from a bug, but could you if you swapped over all the tinware/fans etc from a 1600 t 25?
Just wondered as I might have access to to another 1600 but its from a bug
Failing that does the 2000 Aircooled fit straight onto the 1600 gearbox?
Sorry for the questions, I'm trying to keep the cost down, and the more I tackle on this beast the more I find that needs doing etc
Thanks
Andrew

volkspares engines vary in quality. The heads may not have been new but old ones exchanged&refurbished. The 2000cc Aircooled will go straight onto a 1600cc but you will regret it.As the gear ratio is to low for the 2000cc engine.Try to get a 2ltr replacement head if the cracked one is unservicable. The 1600cc is underpowered for the T25 dont go down that route. My advice from past experiance of owning a volksspares 2ltr cu engined T25 is this.If you suspect there are other mechanical issues remove the engine you can then remove the tinware easier to inspect for oil leaks & other problems.Oh i read through your topic and you have removed your engine.Obtain a haynes manuel this will help you if you have never worked on this type of .engine. try justkampers complete head £169 http://shop.justkampers.com/product_inf ... ts_id/9358
