Water pump: early / late?

Post by Nicola&Tony »

Hi, I'm looking to order a water pump from GSF but they do one for petrol vans from Aug. '82 - July '85 and another for later vans (Aug. '85 - Nov. '90). Our van was first registered in Dec. '85 but I'm reliably informed (Mr. Hulley  ) that the engine is an early DG and I know that the fuse box is the early type.

So I guess it's the early pump that I need, regardless of the van's registration date? Just wanted to check on here first.

Grateful for any help.

Tony :)

im pretty sure yours is early, i saw in at techy weekend, definitive answer is, where is your thermostat housing? at the back with the water pump, or at the front on the oposite end of the head.

late is plastic at the front, early is ally and next to the water pump....

He he he!!! We were gonna set off to Aviemore today but it was really windy here last night, checked the weather forecast this morning and for eastern Scotland it was talking about winds of 50-60mph and 3" of rain over next couple of days! So we've decided to delay for a couple of days and monitor the weather forecast. We also now have a downpipe from the house guttering that is blowing around in the wind so I want to fix that before going away anywhere.

Thanks Mocki, I'll have another look this afternoon and post a photo if I'm not sure. From your description though I think we need an early one.
