Find the engine number (perhaps a 1Y series ?) and look at the top of Alternative Engines Forum.

Ringo has a 1Y in his Villa, I believe Futbus fitted it.

Quite correct Ian :)

If its a 1Y (sounds the right year) then it will be a good replacement.

Not too much of an increase in power - but reliable as hell and a very easy swap.

You cannot use the gearbox from the seat... but your 1.9 engine should bolt right up to the existing box.. check out the alternatve engines forum for the info... read the FAQ's and do a search for any info you are after..

Hey Hopey!

How did it go? Did you get it done? I was thinking of changing the engine in my LHD 1600 4 gear T25 but haven't been brave enough yet! Am I right in saying that just because the engine you want to put in is 5 gear, doesn't mean you have to upgrade to a five gear box?

Cheers

Joe

The seat box just will not fit..... its a transverse gearbox in a front wheel drive car..

the 1.9 will bolt up to the 4 speed in your van ok (as far as I am aware) as the 1.9's are a development of the 1.6.......

5 speed isnt required either as it normally doesnt give you any better gearing in top gear... only a low 1st which might be handy if you live somewhere very hilly..

Its the same engine as in my van so it will fit easily, you might have to swap over the bar the the accelerator cable connects with to the pump or it will foul on the engine cover.

Change the cambelt before you put the engine in - much easier.
