Oil Buzzer question

Post by andyntyler »

Can anyone help with this. The buzzer and oil light come on ond off a few times briefly, usualy as i am slowing and or cornering after some longer M/way journeys?? Oil is changed regular and is full on dipstick. Woryingly when this happens i sometimes get a fine film of oil on the tailgate!! Has anyone else had this happen and where should i start looking, no horror stories please.

Ah yes and its a westie 1.6 turbo diesel

its traditional to give us a clue as to what engine you have!

however, try changing the senders. assuming it isnt a electrical issue, the buzzer sounds for a reason

Oil buzzer question

Post by campervanman »

Happened to me with my 1.9 watercooled (twice) Got towed in by RAC to a VAG garage and they changed a probe and about a week later it happened again and they changed another probe. Since then has not happened again, touch wood! Oil level was OK in both cases, I had actually changed oil and filter in between ocurrences. One was primary oil pressure switch, 068919081A, the other was, presumably, the secondary oil pressure switch, have not got part number for this as the garage scratched the paint during repair and waived the bill.

Yes, the oil on the back of the tailgate IS a clue...

The oil is getting very hot, and you probably have some blowby, or the turbo is part of the problem too (getting worn bearings/seals)... how hard are you pushing it for how long when this happens... (speed, wind into, incline, weight, vanbodysshape)

Yes, it prob is low oil pressure, not uncommon at all... once it cools its probably OK... TD's need a good oil cooler.

Also calibrate the dipstikc with 4.5 litres of oil form a drain anf ilter change, you may be slighly overfilling.

This happened sunday on the way to devon, M4 followed by M5 bit of a stop in the middle but a good hour drive at a time, high side/front winds going no faster than 100kmh with quite a lot of the journey at 80kmh, three adults and 3 bikes and its a California Hightop.

thanks for all the info so far guys.

I had the same with my 1.6d. It turned out to be too much oil in the engine, which was caused by the dip stick being too short (new enigine had been fitted). Emptied the oil and then refilled with 4.5l of oil and it only just touched the bottom of the dipstick!!!! The problem has now gone, no buzzer and no oil on the tailgate.
