Polybush from Gorden Craig?

Post by Reco »

Just read excellent article by Aidian Talbot re changing prop bush to prevent that annoying ringing at low revs.
Anyone have contact for Gorden Craig SA supplier of said polybush?
www seems to only put up fottballers and actors that didn't appear up to speed with syncros!
Cheers

Got various bushes off Gordon in 05. Fitted the propshaft bush on my Kombi but it still rings. Plan B is a fresh propshaft from GKN.

Sorry 'bout that.
And yes have seen that video at Jagvlake.

I'll try to conatct Steuart (?)at syncro hospital then.
But some saying polybush didn't fix -not concensus of group then?

By the way Russel -thanx for pics and solid looking single cab but sensible head said no plus as someone else mentioned difficult to justify a 2nd syncro purchase (well - for us meer mortals anyway!)

Cheers all,

That was Mattflint, who actually didn't get the whole thing reconned as far as I know, but certainly had at least one UJ done and a balance at a very good price... re-balancing is normally silly expensive, due not many having the equipment

Plan B is a fresh propshaft from GKN.

It'll still ring if you provoke it though... OK, more of a rattle than original prop

Which design do you have Clive ? I seem to recollect people describing one with concentric parts separated by rubber bushings.

I have the only ultimate one as far as i know, has slider to adjust length and has rubber coupling between an inner and outer shaft so it has a slight twisting action.

Andy, are you happy with it ? Any vibes or rattles ? The old one on my single-cab is shot and I need to get it replaced.

very happy with it, great improvment over one with just slider which is what i had before. It can be made to vibrate when in wrong gear but is partly down to engine being a bit different.

Andy, sounds good. Is there an order code or part number you can let me know, or do I just phone GKN and ask for 'one like that Andy Simpson had' ?

I have no order no, i bought it a few years ago so doubt they will have a record. Basically it has better than original uj's which are greasable (i had the option) its has a slider, one tube overlaps the other over about 18" with rubber between them, they suggested this for the engine vibrations i was getting with the 5 cylinder.

Local place to me will make them for about £200.
Includes larger UJ's (from a Landy) a slider and made from torque resiliant tube if need be.
Thats plus VAT though.
