Stil got flashing coolant light

Post by Hacksawbob »

it comes on standard self check, then goes off for a couple of seconds, then comes back on. Once engine is warm if you do an ingition of and on it goes off.
Earths are clean, coolant sensors (both) are new VAG replacements what next?

Not changed it recently, is there a different level send or something? Engine was changed I think it started after that, 2.1 for 1.9 swap. sorry forgot to mention.

I dont think its wiring fritz but I have checked the sensor wires and the dash multi plug, if it wasw loose wire it would not be as consistent as it is I know from trial and error that if I restart after the temp guage is out of the white area it will go out. properly. I am guessing there is some logic circuit that is not happy in the dash but I dont know what to test

also do a substitute wire check ( Run a length of wire from the sender to the dash, old rotton wires have a greater restistance, and heat damages wires look ok, but internally can be broken or cracked....

I have the same thing couple of years ago. It was the sensor in the reservoir that was leaking up the wire probes so that when engine was hot and sensor dried out. the light stayed off after a ignition off and restart

Water level light

Post by trundletruc »

Thanks Ray

I will check the sensor on my van.
Usually at first start up the flashing light goes out as it should, but the next time I start up after a short run it takes ages to go out, although I know the water level is correct. Sometimes it takes at least 5 minutes. Often this happens if the van has not been used for a bit. This sounds like it could be condensation.

Funnily I did not have any problem with this until I changed the instruments unit to one with a reve counter!
