fuel pump

Hi all

Just a quick question if anybody could help me please

I have a diesel 1.6 na.

I want to fit a second tank for SVO (mods please dont move this)

If i use a fuel tank switch then the machinical pump will be pumping against a dead end.

Will this brake the pump or will the pump be ok?

SVO will break the pump whatever you do, they are not designed for such high viscosity oils.

sorry should have said that the meachanical pump will be pumping petro diesel not SVO.

I am currently working on a SVO conversion.Apart from a high output heat exchanger for the vegi fuel i am going to make up a glow plug fuel heater. Fitted just before the injection pump to over come cold fuel on swith over.

Thats great and similar to what im doing.

still confused as to the awnser to my orginal question.

will the mechanical pump be ok if it is effectivky pumping against a dead end? It will be pumping normal diesel!

Andysimpson Are you meaning fuel viscosity breaking the pump or bio fuel effecting the seals in the pump.Or degredation of piston or the cylinder head due to combustion of bio fuel .Other-power you said it will be pumping against a dead end when you switch over.What sort of fuel switching valves are you using?.Are you using a 6 port genuine pollak valve of which you can do a loop return back to the second bio filter.The dead end effect you discribe i assume is when a valve opens or closes .Using a pollak valve or a tecmate 3 port these would be electrically operated.Provided there is a constant supply of heated svo/wvo fuel to the injection pump after switch over from cold this effect would be short. The fuel tank fitted for deisel is lower than the injection pump but the pump is still able to fuel up.If you installing a second tank the only problem might be the viscosity with vegi oil in the tank effect especially in cold weather.I am fabricating a fuel tank with an option for heating it up .

ah no it shouldnt, if the post hadernt been hijacked things would be fine.

I would just like to no if the mechanical pump, puming diesel against a dead end would cause the pump to brake or become defective. no more no less.

I just put inabout the second tank so that people would know why i am asking such a question!

Okay i am going to give it a shot nope it wont break the pump against a fuel change over .But if the pump is working against viscous oil in a short time it will
