MORE POWER!!!!
Ok..gents I'm looking for inspiration.
I'm not sure what's going on with mine but my AAZ isn't performing much better than my old 1.9DG
Fuel consumption has dropped a bit now - mid 30's
max speed is about 75 and slow getting there.
Have made no mods apart from oil cooler and am quite frankly looking at changing it out for a Subaru.
The wife now does regular trips from Winchester to Bude,Cornwall and is getting peed off with it taking her 5 hours to get there!
(she's even thinking of selling the bus and getting something...gulp...MODERN!
She wants a faster bus! but obviously if we can coax more power from the AAZ its the way to go.
Smoking a bit on acceleration now as well. Not sure why.
Heard all sorts about LDA pins and governor mods but a bit lost with all that.
Is a bigger turbo a solution, or do I need to look at the Scooby option.
Don't really want to spend £1000's on more performance so price needs to be realistic.
I've got a 5 speed box (don't know the code) and it seems to want a 6th!
Can I get it regeared in 4th 5th?
WOuld that make a lot of difference?
Really I spose I'm asking if anyone can help me get more from the AAZ (I'm near Winchester)
I am prepared to pay, but obviously not STOOPID money
Any ideas?

was thinking earlier whilst eating a burger , cant remember what engine you had that went pop in europe , but ............................... have you replaced fuel filter even if it was fairly new before you went to europe ? (1) if it was a diesel engine you had - IIRC foreign diesel has to have 5% bio in it 'by law' - this bio would have cleaned all the scum out ya pipes / tank and dropped it in ya filter (2) if it was a petrol you have converted , is it possible the diesel could have done same ? ie cleaned at all the petrol scum/"pooh" and dumped it in the filter . not a petro-chemical scientist but could the diesel clean the petrol out ?

But Mr Weezlechin, thats my point.
I want to travel on the motorway at 75 80mph all the time.
My question was does anyone know the best route to more/consistent power and longer legs.
I know its there..its just how to find it.
ANd believe me , if I owned a 911 i'd be expecting a f*ck sight more than 75mph!

after re-reading this and t'other post i dont think there is too much ,if anything wrong with yours - maybe you are just exoecting too much ? its a fairly basic (compared to recent vw engines) and low powered engine pushing a brick along . even in goofs/pissrats they wernt that fantastic. mid 30s if ya tonking it everywhere is good
try boost pin and see if you can live with it , at end of day if you want a sportcar , you buy one.
after looking at the recent ultravw article/build report - it dosnt look like a much change from £3k if you do it ya'sel + extra like rebuilt box + ubgraded brakes if you so desire
feckin vdubs

Problem with that Simon, its finding someone who knows what there on about. How can I tell if they know how to set these things up without making it go bang by looking through the yellow pages.?
Unless anyone knows of a AAZ specialist in Winchester/Southampton area?
Answers on a post card please.
I appreciate I aint gonna get a fire breathing monster that does 300mph at 50mpg but I would like my outlay of time and money spent so far (and
I haven't been pissing about with this for a couple of days - this is the second AAZ its had and have learnt the oil cooler lesson in Switzerland -..check my posts) not to have been in vain.
I guess there must be a problem as smoke/higher fuel consumption and lower top end are obviously not right.

Have you checked everything and not just assumed something is right because it is new/you paid someone else to do it.
Cam timing.
Pump timing.
Boost pressure.
Which pump is it, becasue there are 4 or so different ones fitted to the AAZ, some are good, some are okay and some are "pooh".
Do you have one with a solenoid at the bottom of the pump.
AAZ should manage 75-80mph no problems depending on gearing, if it doesn't then someone or something has f**ked up somewhere.
Has it got a silly oxy cat on it? what exhaust does it have? a proper one or a home made bodge affair that seem so popular with driveway converters.
Most AAZ conversions i get through the garage are a joke to be fair, real nasty ones.

Cam timing and pump timing set up by me and Clive.
COnversion done by Philippacman ( who I trust )
Exhaust is a homemade driveway bodge by me.
Stainless one being fabricated in the next month with 2 inch tube and single large bore silencer.
I guess some'thing' must be wrong as the some'ones' involved in my bus are old hands on this site..one of them being a moderator!
