Lumpy running on idle 1.6 TD JX ..any ideas???

Post by Karmann LT »

I am having a problem with my 1.6 Turbo Diesel JX code engine in my crewcab....it seems to run fine generally, doesn't leak much oil or use water or oil etc, pulls like a train, doesn't smoke excessively...but when it ticks over, it occasionally goes into a lumpy running mode, almost like it is running on 3 cylinders, with excessive vibration and jumping around of the engine on the mounts..if i touch the throttle very slightly, perhaps increasing revs by a mere 200 rpm, it seems to go away...i don't want to just turn the throttle stop screw in so that it revs more highly, as it is set at the correct idle speed at the moment, and has developed the problem recently..is there any obvious problem i can check for and rectify?? any ideas greatly appreciated..Thanks.

Had a similar problem on a Diesel Ford Transit which was air in the fuel system.

Once the system had been bled it worked OK. It has happened a few times though..

Don't know if that is of any use.
