when was last time it ran on gas ? how old is conversion ? have any 'experts' tinkered with it ? how soon do you try switching over , when its warmed up ?
not a gas mechanic but have had 2 vehicles on the stuff - its fairly easy to suss out-especially if your on carbs . the fact that you are able to idle on gas shows ya that the solenoids are all working - dunno whether its industry standard but IIRC mine both had/have 3 solenoids - 1 on tank , 1 on vaporiser and a third on the filter body.
would deffo check filters out - big brass bowl type affair - will be full of what looks like iron filings . you might have a second filter on vaporiser aswell.do these ya self .also might be worth ya while taking the mixers off and giving them a good clean with carb cleaner , looking at the state of some badly set up carbs they could be covered in carbon/oil/petrol/"pooh" from carbs. ( dont wish to insult ya but mixers the the alloy body things above carbs that put gas into the carb tops).are your carbs set up ok , do chokes come off/open ok ?
if no joy goto an expert. not worth the hassle of feckin up the adjustments on ya vaporiser if you dont know what your doing. an hours labour should see you right. could be as simple as someone has tried to fix it themselves and screwed up idle/mix/powervalve adjustments.

oh , and welcome to the forum trev. dont bother buying a new filter , for £13 you get the whole body/filter and solenoid . take the old one to bits to have a look at the "pooh" in it. 'worst' scenario is the vaporiser is full of tar/"pooh" that gums up the diaphragm. can buy a rebuild kit for sensible money ( diaphragm and O rings) if your mechanically minded its dead easy-just remember position of brass adjustment screws) to rebuild and you can do it in 30 mins including giving it a good clean.

Life is like a sewer, what you get out of it depends on what you put into it.
