Dellorto 36 Vacuum connection for Dizzy

Post by mike the van »

2.0 ltr Aircold Standard engine

Any Dell experts out there ?

looking to finally fit Dell 36's only one of the carbs has a vacuum connection for the dizzy, does it matter which set of carbs provides the vacuum to the dizzy, as from the Dell book it is the RHS side that is shown with the vacuum connection, but as mine are off an Alfa the new linkage for the RHS can only be fitted on one end of the butterfly shaft, nearest the bulkhead. It would be easier for me to hand the carbs, so looking at the engine, the vacuum pipe would be on the near side. Not sure if this messes up the dizzy advance, also where do I connect the other vacuum pipe on the carb,

Cheers

Mike

It doesnt matter which side the vac advance comes from. Its a sealed unit as such and does not draw any air through it, mearly reacting to the amount of vacuum in the manifold. So long as both carbs are balanced it will be fine. In most situations the vac advance is an on or off type device, ie when your pedal is to the metal it will be on full advance, only being somewhere in the middle on very light throttle loads, which in a bus is not very often.

Thanks for that , much appreciated, I sort of thought that might be the case, but I am new to these newfangled Dells.
Guess what I am doing if it doesn't rain ?

Wrong way around, when at full throttle there is little vacum so little vac advance when at light throttle there is lots of vacum so lots of vac advance.

Ah yes, but the vac advance needs very little to go all the way to full advance is what I am sayin, seen one on a rolling road, and it was at full advance just about all the time.

But agreed that the vacuum will decrease the further open the throttle is. (in relation to the rpm.)
