new clutch?

arrggggggggghhhh

just managed to get the bus taxed and i think the clutch has just gone

drove it a couple of miles and the clutch pedel bite seamed close to the floor but no problem changing gear.

parked it at my mums whent to move it no clutch, crunching and grinding trying to get reverse and 1st

master replaced earlier this year checked slave with wife pressing pedel full movement.

if you start it in gear with clutch pressed to the floor it will move but pedel just clear of the floor

have i missed anything or is it a poxy wekkend under the bus again!

also sorry if this sounds daft can i pull the engine away far enough to change clutch without disconecting the coolent pipes (only worked on Aircooled before)

Unfortunately there is no adjustment on the clutch and it sounds like replacement time.
Easier to just remove the gearbox, then you only have to disconect the cv's at the gearbox end, linkage, starter motor wires and earth strap. Undo the slave cylinder and tie that up out of the way. Dont forget to support the engine.

And make sure you "round" off the release arm ends with a file before fittting the new release bearing.. otherwise you may find you have a heavy/sticking clutch..

It's the gearbox and driveshafts that get undone and the box moved forwards, off the engine. With respect perhaps you'd be better off buying a manual and pay someone who knows what they're doing to do it for you in the meantime.

cheers guys looks like i will be changing the clutch this weekend.

have had a look at the manual doesent look to complicated but will have to see!
done a few clutches before but mainly Aircooled where the gearbox stays in place and you drop the engine
the bus will ride again

removed gearbox nowhere near as bad as i thought it would be

clutch bearing release shaft foobard,one of the bearing arms has snapped at the weld. ive had this happen before on Aircooled but never considered it on the bus.

explanes the sudden loss of clutch though

cheers for all the post's guys the buss will go again!(when my new release arm and clutch arrive that is)

Might be better to get the original arm welded on.. changing the release arm is an utter pain

me again

removed the bearing release shaft and there is a lot of play in the bushes nearest the control arm (cream plastic) are these available think they have been cooked when it was welded in the past

are they the same on type 2 as they list them on JK but only up to 1975?

any help please

Shaft is the same, so possible the bush is...
So you got the actuating lever off ok then? these are normally a complete pig....

needed a new shaft so i cut the old one off the end of the shaft while on the box (removed inner ciclip to gain some space)
ground the surface flat to the circlip groove and drove the last of the old shaft through with a drift
will try some t2 bushes if t25 ones not available
