1.9d to 1.9td. exhaust?

Post by PhilXXJ »

Hi i have a 1.9td engine from a golf to replace my 1.6d. Not sure what to do about the exhaust. will modifying my existing one be too restrictive?

Will a complete 1.6TD system fit? any other suggestions?

Also i read in one thread a spigot bearing needs to be fitted in the crank. is this straightforward?

are you using JX maifolds ? if so the JX sytem/box will fit . if you are using the AAZ manifolds (as i am) it will need to be made to fit! :D i am getting the AAZ downpipe and milling the flange off ( the AAZ pipe is narrower than the JX anyway!!!) and fabbing/hitting/swearing a new pipe. i bought a length of 2m weldable flexi steel pipe for £14 !!
spigot bearing is a few quid from GSF , once flywheel is on it just drifts in with a smear of grease and an appropriate sized socket :D

Not sure about engine code all i know is its out of a 95/96 golf. there is about a foot of pipe still attached to the flange which i could run to the silencer. where can i find the flexi pipe?
bearing sounds pretty simple cheers. :)

i take it the foot or so you have still has a 6"section of 'woven wire' style flexi in the middle of it ? what i am doing is chop off the whole pipe so i just have the 6mm thick flange left , get the JX pipe and cut flange off , weld JX pipe to golf/AAZ flange , cobble up whats left with flexi!!
JX pipe is 60mm OD , flexi is available in 60mm ID !!! will get pics tomoz/thursday!!
from what i can gather a TD is fairly quiet as the turbo absorbs most of the noise. just try running it with the downpipe(trim end down) until you can get one fabbed ?!?!? avoid the boy racer stainless drive in/out places unless you have deep pockets!!!

partco for flexi , think it is made by BOSAL so any motor factors should be able to get it. if you look in their catalogue behind the counter they can order in most size/angles of bends etc to make/shape your own
