1.6D Diesel Injection Pump in 1.9D (1Y) engine

Post by EeFu »

I want to share my experience with the forum regarding changing from 1.6D to 1.9D (The old 1.6D blown, piston 1 siezed and crank rod puncture a hole in the engine case)

Some might laugh at the duration I took to do this. Started the conversion late July and I started the 'new' engine last Sunday. And there are still a few problems to sort out before I can drive on the road.

This is my 1st mechanical/engine work. My mates think I'm crazy. But it is good learning cycle. And thanks the wealth of information on this forum, I can complete most task without much problem. Else it just try and error approach.

Firstly, removing the engine was a big headache. Lots of bolts and nuts are rusted fast and I have to hack saw them out. Not fun at all. Took me almost 2 weeks (mainly after work). Once the engine was out, it was cleaning time on both the 'new' engine and parts from the old engine. Next, re-assembly, new oil pump, new sump gasket, new timing belt, new water pump, new clutch and other bits and bobs

Now, I asked HarryMann whether I can use my 1.6D pump in my 'new' 1.9D engine because the engine i bought didn't come with 1. He recommended I use a 1.7D or the 1.9D pump. I took a gamble to re-use the old pump and suprisingly it works. Can't tell the efficiency or power yet. Will update when I have the data.

Sorry for the long-winded post.

Regards,
EeFu

I have heard of people using the 1.6d pump with no issues.....

Can't remember when, but you should be ok.

Good luck,

I read on one of these posts of someone fitting the pump from their 1.6d it worked ok but less power . Wouldnt have to worry about it clearing the engine cover though i guess

1.6 pump

Not sure about all the ins and outs of this ie dos and donts but if its a bosch pump theres an adjuster screw that alters fuel delivery, u can screw this in slightly to give you a little more power, its only a very minor amount that it needs to be turned in to make a difference (about an eight of a turn-ish) if you get excessive black smoke its to much. Done this on my 1.7d without problem and many peugeot engines
