I guess it started with a bit of rust on the outside seam (behind the fridge) that has been bugging me for ages.
After reading other posts I figured this has to be coming from the inside out, so I thought I may as well gut the van and fix the problem!
I decided to upgrade the insulation as the nasty fibre insulation from VW just attracts moisture and leads to rust.
I've also decided to sound dampen the van as it would be a bonus to hear the CD player at 70mph!
I will update and post as I go along, if anyone wants to know what I'm using or ask any Q's please feel free.
Basically I'm winging it and taking lots of pics so I can hopefully put it all back together again!

cheers
I was very surprised, its a very early westy ('79-80) one of the first! with the original 'all red' rear lights. My better half just got an '89 bluestar and the bodywork on mine is in better nick!!
I have to say while removing the interior I've noticed that its really well built, all the panels are ply, no cheap plastic or hardboard, even the trim panels

Hi

I've had a few people asking me what I'm using so here goes...

For insulation I've used 1 roll of therma wrap from B&Q - £28 (just about did it all) - info here

Sound deadening was from flea bay (using the foil backed sticky sheets)
Used 30 sq ft in the front cab but this was not enough to cover under seats and battery boxes
Used 50 sq ft in the back panels and Ive still got the top of the engine to do so I dont know if this will be enough as yet.

Also using foil tape for joining the seams of the sound sheets and the insulation.

Retrim of the panels/ cards will be done in leathercloth from here.
7 mtrs is enough to recover all the inside panels (im not doing the front door cards)

Trim for inside of the high top was bought at Vanfest and is fixed with Dunlop 'high temp' spray adhesive and some stainless steel screws/cups around the edges.

All rust on my van (and there is not much  ) has been treated with Vactan from here

And lino flooring is from here

Recovering of seats in camouflage (bought here) was done by my fine other half (ines) thanks love

Any question please feel free

A quick note
B&Q have the therma wrap on 2 4 1 special
1 roll will do 90% of the van but I needed another to do the floor and will double up what ive done so far i think
cant knock it at £30 for 2

Hey Keith

Sounds like you are doing a proper job of things. The therma wrap stuff, would be any good to make window covers

or even something to insulate a pop top a bit like this but for a Devon side elevating roof
