What year did the 1Y get an ECU ?

What year did the 1Y get an ECU ?

I have read somewhere that the 1Y (1.9d n/a) engine at some point in its life got an ECU fitted.

If i were to look for a 1Y (another one) then whats the latest year i can get that doesnt have an ECU fitted ? Alternatively, if the engine does have a ECU fitted, can i take it off ?

Reason im asking is because i would like at some point to get myself a spare engine...

1y's never had ecu's they had vairous emission control "pooh" fitted over the years but this can all be easilly removed.
