Starter Moptor Problems

Post by Rooster »

for what it's worth, I have just resolved a long standing starter problem. I have had the problem ever since buying the van, I added earth leads, cleaned and checked all the cables, checked the starter but still had the problem, then finaly on Friday it packed up all together. RAC man came out wiggled the cables and got it starting. Got home and guess what - it would not start. So fitted another starter. - problem solved.

The cause of the proble sees to have been the bolt that the main power lead attaches to it had been over tightened cracking the bakerlight housing allowing the bolt to 'float' slightley, so the bolt was tight but the cable was not. Beacuse the bakerlite was cracked the bolt was not making a good contact with the solenoid it all looked and tested ok but the problem was intermitent, anyway now it works and has never been so eager to start. Spelling errors are not mine it was my keyboard!
