AEF.. are they turbo?

Post by PEET »

I have an AEF lump in my van with a turbo on it that seems to be drinking oil with no smoke or major leaks..
Now am i right in thinkin it shouldnt have a turbo on it in the first place and also that the oil must be being vapourised somehow thru the turbo?
If so is rebuilding an AAZ the best route?
Thanx a heartbroken Peet

The AEF is a 1.9l 47KW/64Hp diesel, fitted to the Caddy 1996-2000 amongst possibly other vehicles (according to ETOS). Piston geometry and C/R is same as AAZ (79.5x95.5, 22.5:1). I'd guess the pump may not have an LDA (boost enrichment) so even if a turbo is fitted will not be capable of the same power as the AAZ due to lack of fuel.

The pumps on these are really really nasty and one of the many things that make them so bad, there is no LDA and it can't be fitted easily if at all.

Peet
If you need a hand changing lumps I'm always willing to lend a hand, and there's a vw breakers in Angmering near Worthing who might be able to come up with an AAZ, will look out their details if you need a lump, but sounds like you already have one to rebuild.

.. and I doubt the block has piston-cooling oil thrower jets, which turbos need.

Thanx for the help, i am going to try and get £300 n get an AAZ lump n start again in the next few weeks, typical this van cost me everything i had and its bodge after bodge so far! (if you buy old Elly u wont find any!)

Next question is will i need much engine mount changing, wiring pump stuff etc to go from AEF to AAZ? I will post the pump details tommorrow! The lack of oil thrower jets would explain the burnt out old turbo (i just hope the 400 mile trip hasnt killed the new one i just fitted!) and the getting thru 2/12 litres of oil on the journey plus the lack of oil leax n smoke!

Thanx for the offers Skell i may well take u up on it tho..
