difflock mystery lights

Post by Hacksawbob »

I had the diff lock selection panel off the other day, what are the other 2 lights for? there is one in the centre (with a bulb) but also another one without a bulb but with the space and contacts for one.

Umm, I'd guess one is the backlight illumination and the other is for the optional decoupler.

Ah VW did a decoupler did they? ws that aswell as a VC or instead? Also noticed when I put on my front one alone, it flashes (normal I take it) but if I then put on the rear then front light goes out (rear doesn't come on so both dark) rear can be a little reluctant sometimes though, is it 'nicking' the vacuum for the front?

Could be Bob, if you've a bit of a leak or a blockage, but I wouldn't think the front would come on and knock the rear off... you'll have to do some trouble shooting.

I've bodged a vacuum gauge up that is very quick to connect up and troubleshoot with, push comes to shove could send it up to you, bit of a 'thing' to post though...

At first read I thought this sounded like electrics (earthing).
Question is, what state are both the locks actually in once you've put the front on?
