honest opinion needed

Post by chrissydai »

Hi guys, this is my first message although ive been a member for 6 months!! my 1.9 petrol engine blew last week and i dont know what engine to replace it with. Is it possible to fit a TDI engine? would anybody do it? or can you recommend a good engine to put in instead. I intend on keeping my van for a good few years yet so dont mind spending a bit of cash if the results are worth it. Im based in swansea but dont mind travelling to a reputable garage. Please help because im having withdrawl symptoms from not being able to drive her!!!

take a look on the alternative engine forum and in the WIKI
lots of info to be found..

but... its worth considering a brand new vw engine, pref in 2.1 form (would need to supply an old unit to exchange though) this will run on the 1.9 carb etc and give very good performance ovr the old 1.9 and mpg wont be less.. and can be a little better...
Speak to Aidan "beaker" tosee if he has the deal going...

There's a lot to learn to make the Tdi or even TD decision, and most of the info you need is here in posts on various forums mainly Alt Engines and the Wiki...

keep the same type engine and stay original. They are great engines when you get a good one and do the swap yourself. If you need a hand with the engine swap i'll give you a hand one weekend if this would help...

I agree, keep the 1.9DG and if you want to spend the cash gas it.

As I suggested, think about a 2.1 as the extra grunt is worth it and resonds to LPG on the DG manifold very well... its a direct swap too...
Aidan was getting some real good deals on gen VW rebiult engines.. IIRC £1200 ish..... thats a total bargain...

IIRC AIdan could get them for around £1200... ok so quite a bit more than an Elite, but its a bargain for a gen VW engine..
