Leisure Battery Power and consumer unit

Post by yellow_van_man »

I have just installed the split charge to work my lesuire battery. All went ok and seems great.

My next question is do i just connect my lights to the leisure battery or do i wire the battery into the consumer unit somehow.

How can i run my lights from the lesuire battery and from the electric hook up?

Hope someone understands what i mean.

Thanks in advance.

OK we need some clarification here....

you have 12vDC lights in the camper and want to use the battery to light them?
thats ok and they will work when the engines running too

the hook up will supply 230V AC..... 12V lights will not work from mains supply.
fitting a separate 230 V lamp and wiring it to the breaker or trip box is OK
But if you fit a Zig then it will charge the battery when on hooky

I have wired in a similar setup into my van. I have 12v lights. I have a split charge relay that charges my leisure battery when engine running. I have then connected a seperate fuse box which is feed from the leisure battery and connected all my 12v leisure items through this. For when i am parked up at a site using 240 hook up. I have a 240 comumer unit which then is connected to caravan/leisure battery charger. This then keeps my leisure battery charged from the 240v and I can use all my 12v lights and fridge with out my battery going flat. The charging unit monitors battery condition and only charges when needed so not constantly running. all this works fine for me and never had any probs with it. Hope this all makes sense.
