Replacement engine needed, has anyone used....

Post by ssbrown19 »

Hi,

Sadly it looks as though we may have to bite the bullet and get a replacement engine in our van, I have seen the accolades for Elite VW (Essex) but I have also been having a look around online at dubdoctors etc, if anyone can recommend a local garage (Somerset / Dorset / Taunton) that can fit a water cooled 1.9 petrol I would be grateful

I have also emailed for a quote from these guys, has anyone ever used them???

At the moment I think Elite would be the best way to go (website says £680) as a few of you have recommended their services, but I am a bit worried that it's a long way from me in Somerset. I am going to also investigate Volkswerke in Taunton, again if anyone can recommend.....

Thanks in advance

Simon

If the link you provided has there workshops close to Twickenham rugby ground. The answer is yes that company would have been around since late 60s .Advirtised in the exchange&mart and loot and others. If you go to Elite VW (Essex) that in my opinion would be my choice.

i got steve at gasure to fit my elite engine. elite were fine with that and still has its warranty etc if serviced by steve. engine is pretty good. i was a bit let down though as it was almost a week late arriving, (which made it hardwork for steve to get it done in time for my holiday) and its took ages to get my surcharge money back on my old engine. got it eventually though. Apart from that I'm dead happy with it.

I had Elite fit a recon 2.1DJ with carb and it runs nicely. Make sure you change the oil and filter after 500 miles. They were 2 weeks late with the work but its worth waiting in my opinion. Hope this helps

question about elites quotes. what does the £680 include?

is it simply the engine, not carb, not dizzy, not alternator, water pump and obviously not exhaust? if so a complete replacement will actually cost you more like £2K?

Thanks for the responses guys, i called elite and the £680 does include fitting if you take the van to them, i pretty much figured that it wouldn't include an exhaust but i will ask about the water pump / carb etc

To be fair they did say that there was a 2-3 week wait for any work to be done, and i suppose its worth waiting for if its done right!

Just got to try and get the van up to them now, i spoke to gasure but its a bit much to ask a mobile mechanic to fit the engine on my driveway, would be useful for servicing though

Cheers
