hi guys, i think our clutch release bearing has had it . when i press the clutch pedal to seect first or reverse i get a terrible graunching sound. i never notice this when im on the move though. it seems to be when im moving the van from stationary. any ideas on the fault and where we could get a kit from?
the clutch release bearing from GSF, [www.gsfcarparts.com] is 14.75 + vat,
to double check, if you let the engine tick over in neutral, try raising and lowering the clutch pedal, and it's prob the bearing if its noisy when pedal is pressed down, but not when it is up.
Could be tha tthe clutch is nearly out too...
I had a clutch that worked fine didnt slip but had a noise when depressed... when the engine came out.. the release bearing had been hitting the flywheel retaining bolts.... and the clutch was pretty low...
Fit a new kit, not worth just fitting a new release bearing unless the clutch is like new...
Also... the release arm tips (wher ehte release bearing clips on), should be a nice rounded shape.. not have a flat (as it may well be) you wont belive the difference in the clutch pedal if you round them off with a file before it goes back together..
i put some extra runs of weld where the release arms are joined to the bar too, as they looked to be a bit insufficiently attached, prob being a bit paranoid, but while it was off, and the welder was out for another job, i thought i might as well!
