MECHANICAL FUEL PUMP

HI EVERYONE,
Mate has got problems with his mechanical fuel pump on his 2.0l 83 t25 Aircooled,been told today thay are obsolete,cant get them.i always thought they were the same as the watercooled models?He has been told he will have to fit a electric pump replacement.Is this correct?and if not what fits?donor vehicles etc?

The only company who may be able to supply a new mechanical fuel pump is VW Heritage. I always thought that they were obsolete until someone on the forum mentioned this company. :)
