Switch, relay or wiring?

Post by Stevie H »

At Mot yesterday my sidelights and headlights failed to come on.

Yes, I know, of all places. The taillights do come on when the switch is operated and my indicators all work fine. The full beam 'blue' light on the dash stays on now though when the sidelight/headlight switch is operated. What could be causing my problem? I'm guessing the full beam/dip switch though why no sidelights?

Needless to say it failed due to 'unable to perform headlight test'

Thanks in advance.

sounds like that there is a bad earth. there are two rings behind glove on the left hand side. These have all your earth connections for the front lights on. You need to remove each one in turn and give it a good clean. This should solve your problem. good luck

could be a bad earth as saId above, a quick check is to remove one headlight and add a earth to one of the earth connections and connect it to one of the screws that hold the headlight in.........

btw, remember that earth wires on a vw are all brown, not black........
