Help! 2.1 engine keeps cuting out.
my 2.1 van drives fine but has recently developed aproblem of cutting out. A few weeks ago it was cutting out while driving and once I had pulled over would instantly restart and away we went. I sorted this out but now it keeps cutting out at very low speedsi.e while trying to manoevre in a car park or just before I stop it will cut out but not every time.I have changed and checked everything possible. New fuel filter, isv valve cleaned+ checked, idle speed control unit (behind o/s lamp) checked. Any ideas as where else to look?

In light hammy44's REDEX suggestion, I was told a few years back that just about any old oil, is just as effective at cleaning carbs and spark plugs as REDEX and a whole lot cheaper. Seems to work for me.
Is it actually at low speeds or at low revs? does it tick over steady at low revs or is it a bit erratic?

Stalling engine
Hi, just a couple of pointers that may be of use.
I had a similar problem on one of our vans and that turned out to be a combination of faulty ignition control unit (Sited on LH of engine compartment next to bulkhead), and also a faulty idle speed control valve.
Also check the braided earth strap on the LH side of the engine. These suffer from corrosion within the braid and can cause ignition problems. I replaced mine with heavy gauge domestic copper earth cable from a piece of armoured cable.
Regards

cheers for that. I have today replaced the ignition control unit but have not replaced or checked earth strap. I will check and replace if needed and probably clean the other earths up to. Went out afer changing igntion unit and within first 500 yards cut straight out. Started instantly and never cut out again and I drove around for probably 15-20 miles. Will try earths tomorrow, cheers.
