Can I please be advised on the best way in which to protect the underside of my campervan.
I was thinking steam cleaned then all exposed rust eliminated and finish with a coating of waxoil. Does this sound reasonable or is there a better way?
I have just bought a 1990 Holdsworth Villa 3 which has had one owner before me who really looked after it - garaged it for 17 years and recorded every journey (44,400 miles, mostly 500-1500 mile touring trips). I would like to keep it in good condition but lack a garage.

that would be good, I have also heard of parafin and oil mixture sprayed onto the underside, waxoyl is pretty expensive to do the whole van, the hand little pump you get with waxoyl is fairly poor esp for internal chassis members better to use a compressor and I think it is called a shutz gun?

Like you said, clean it all off, treat any rusty bits with rust converter and then some decent underseal over that when cured. Black Waxoyl underseal in a tin is good stuff, nice and thick and apply with a brush, then get a can of the sprayable waxoyl (I would get the black rather than the usual natural brown coulour) and use/beg/borrow a compressor and use one of those cheap oil spray guns available from Machine Mart (comes in a set with curly hose and a cheapo paint gun).
Warm the Waxoyl to thin it (and/or thin it with white spirit) and get a paper throwaway overall on with goggles and a hat and get underneath. Spray everything with it, especially into any box section or holes you can see, including the rear suspension arms, and then spray or brush on to all flat surfaces etc. I did mine on a pair of ramps, front end up first, then back end up after. KEEP IT OFF THE DISCS. It will stink inside for a week until all the solvent stuff in it evaporates and it sets to a wax, after a couple of weeks it will be OK.
If it`s a s good as you say, it`s worth doing it right and spend the money to buy the right stuff, it will pay you back in the long run

If you want to spend more money on better stuff, then Dinitrol underbody wax and Dinitrol cavity wax is about the best you can get, will easily outperform Waxoyl, just that Waxoyl always gets mentioned as everyone has heard of it. Another good/better product is Dynax S50 cavity wax, with comes in huge spray cans with a 2 foot thin hose on it so you can get it right down into door pillars etc. Costs £10 for a 750 ml tin
