Has anybody installed/running/ or any thoughts about the peugeot/citroen 1.9td conversion.
Your views, I know it's French in a German vehicle but maybe the Germans have influenced the French engineering a little.

a mate of mine, Greg has a T25 with a 1.9 TD peug engine in and is doing another soon, he used an adaptor ring, his current daily driver has the engine upright, which involved raising the engine bay lid about 5 inches, but he wants to fit the next one under the std height lid and lay it down at quite an angle, he's modded the sump, turbo flange and the rest is work in progress, some one on the forum previously had some pics of a 2.1 12valve [pug 605?] td in a T25 which looked to fit under the std lid, but must have been sitting well low to have done that, as it looked to be at a similar angle as when fitted in the donor vehicle.
Dunno who tell me Peugeot 1.9 Td engine and naturally aspired versions are very good engines... In fact I was driving a Peugeot 205 1.9d for one year and fuel comsuption was really good, about 5 or 6 litres per 100 kms (city) and it was fully loaden with tools, batteries, belts, etc. (My job was helping broken cars in the road, just like the AA)...

the 1.9 non turbo can just be made to fit under standard lid leaving sensible ground clearence.
the td can be fitted with a 1 inch lift in the hatch
the 12 valve needs 2-3 inches
the height prob is mainly manifolds,and if you had money or access to aluminium weldind the maniflods could be modifiyed to allow lower / standard hatches.
also worth noting i have got into the routine of modifying the lid not the metal work of the van, and allowing for about 10 extra holes that need to be drilled there are no other modifications to the van structure! thus allowing easy 'return to standard!'
but belive me you wont when you have had one fitted!
the 19 na is just a trusty 'floor it everywhere' motorit just does what it can.
the td 1.9 has sensible power and can make a t25 cruise at 70-80 all day
the 2.1 well,the easiest way to explain is its like the 1.9 except you get an extra gear, ie what the 1.9 did in 2nd it now does in 3rd,in forth is now 3rd ect
2.1 towing is lovely!and lots of engine braking (overrun)
obviously depends on gearbox wheel choice,i have been lucky and all my maunal vans including my first 1.9 came with the aap box fitted!
i have enlarged the tyres finding that 195/80/15 were a sensible upgrade for the 1.9 td and aap box
1.9td are easier to get than 2.1td and is prob plenty of power if your used to the 1.9 dg,as its power is somewhere between the dg and dj
insurance should be ok as well,as the 2.1 is 2088cc and 110bhp compared to the 2098 and 112bhp of the 2.1 dj petrol.both lower spec
if you fit bigger wheels you can lower the engin to fit under the lid,and if your not bothered on ground clearence(lowered vans and road cars can have 100mm) then you can fit them under the lid
when it stops raining i will measure the clearence on my 2.1td which wears 235/50/18 rear rubber and standard suspension.
Interesting, I've got one in the back of a syncro van which was 1.9 petrol, I am seriously considering putting one in the back of my 2.1 syncro doka.
What sort of clutch and fitting kit (mating plate etc) do I need.
The one I've got has a petrol engine mount with some angle iron welded on which has brought the ground clearance down. As this is on the Syncro I need maximum ground clearance is there or do you do a modified engine mount which gives optimum ground clearance.
What is the rev range on these and how do you go about fitting a rev counter?
The engine that is in this one is from a zantia 1.9td which other cars use these engines.

the clutch my mate used was std peugeot i think, but the flywheel was a bolted together hybrid of the two [peugeot and vw] with some machining needed, dont know if this is the only option tho, or how others did theirs,
as said above , very reliable engines, my pug 306D has been the most reliable car i've owned, hasn't let me down in nearly 10 years, seem alot less rattly and crude somehow than other diesels i've driven. the std 1.6 td T25 i had a drive in when i was thinking of buying one was awful, v noisy, slow, might have just been a bad example tho.
engines are in the peugeot 205,306,309,405,406,605,805 and citreon zx,zantia,visa,xm and rover 218,ldv, and some fiats,fso pickups. plus a few more!
depending on what you do to the engine lid,or the fact the syncro or pickup engine bay has more room you can move the engine as high as you want!
the clutch is the vw one,usually the 228mm and is a machined ve bolted to a peugeot one,may seem crude but actually works 100%
this means you can use the pug starter motor
the 228 is slightly smaller than the pug 2.1 clutch,but mine has NEVER slipped even when pulling another t25!
