Help!!

Post by Roger Rogue »

My LHD Westy is listing to to near-side and pulling the same way when driving.

Any ideas why?

Thanks

Seriously though...! Has it suddenly happened or something that has been getting slowly worse? Could be weak suspension springs on that side or possibly brakes binding but you would have smelt that problem I would have thought! Does it sit that way when stationary or only when travelling?

Think we need a bit more detail.... although there might be a Sherlock amongst us...

Did this happen overnight?

PS. Heavy campeers tend to list but not usually so much to make them pull badly. They are also quite resitsant to 'kerbing'...

Must admit, flat tyre(s) sound the most likely culprit.

Had the same problem once, turned out to be a broken spring.

Wasn't that easy to spot either, as only the last quarter turn had broken and slipped inside of the rest of the spring so at a glance the spring looked ok.

The brakes were all serviced last year and when left on the drive I tend to leave him in gear as opposed to using the handbrake.

Tyre pressures are checked whenever he goes out .

When parked the driveway does slope to the right as you look at it, which would be left as parked.

I think it's got gradually worse, really peeved 'cos had it serviced/mot'd not so long back and no mention of it.

dunno - but could it be shocks??? They only fail MOT if leaking......if they are dry, they will pass, whether they are gone or not!

There - a sensible answer for you

recently replaced the springs on mine for heavy duty ones, prior to that it had a bit of a list to starboard, both the old springs had had it and i think the weight of the cupboards and gas tank mwade it lean that way, all good with the new springs.

most likely broken/dodgy spring, it won't be shocks as they only damp movement and should not affect ride height.
Good luck,
Chad

Filled up with rain on one side only?

This is a strange one, they do lean, but not just sitting there for a few months.. after 10 or 15 years maybe

Many fit stiffer springs to campers, esp. Syncro campers, very common in the US to fit Syncro.org springs to sort this problem out..
