Making a bog box/seat

Post by woodman »

Thought I'd have a crack at making one  as second hand ones seem to go for loads of dollar and are as rare as the proverbeal rocking horse s**t.

Its taken a while but is shaping up. The front drops to slide the bog out when full and heavy. and the top lifts with a small lip so the kids and missis dont catch their legs when they are on the Kazi!

It fits in so that you face the sink (LHD Westy), and works well as a footstool, extra seat and dining seat too. If anyones interested in making their own I'll post pics and destructions when completly finished. Althogh I am no joiner and there is certainly room for improvement!

Can't believe I am writing a post about making bog boxes, it must be my "maturing" mind taking shape! (at the age of 34!!)
Just needs a lick of paint and some nice foam and funky cover to complete!

I'd be interested to read how you achieved the drop-down front.

My buddy seat only has a top lid, so I whenever I need to empty the d*mn loo I have to heave it up & out the box with about 5mm clearance either side..

I've gone for the simpler "slide-out" approach with an open end, on the basis that at night it is as easy to slide it out of the end (towards kitchen).
Avoids having to have hinges, lids, flappy bits etc.
Just waiting for top coat of paint to dry, then can try out.
Will use catches to attach to rear of passenger seat box to stop sliding around, and a toggle or similar to retain loo in box when driving.
Whole thing made of 9mm MDF with glued and screwed corners with quadrant, so fairly lightweight but strong (and cheaper than Vohringer!)
Will post pics when installed.

Mine is made out of fairly thick MDF (scaved from work) I think its about 20mm. There is a base board at the bottom so the box is fully enclosed. The front drops down which is hinged off the base. When its up, there is a bolt lock and hook on the inside to hold it in place. I'll post pics when completly finished, undercoats on, paintmatched the Westy grey, just needs a couple of coats and dense foam and furry material fitting to finish. I stop the bog sliding round by using a grip mat in the base. I'm gonna go for straps as satndard buddy box on the Cal and Atlantics.

Cheers,

Mike.
