Can I replace a manual 'box with an Auto?

Post by Andystarks »

Hi

I have a 1980 Devon Moonraker with the 2ltr engine and manual transmission.

I am looking to make this into a daily driver and (due to medical reasons) would prefer it to be automatic and with PAS.

I have read the links about using the electric steering systemss, so that is now sorted in my head.

However, I need to know if I can fit an auto box to my current engine or whether I need to have a different engine set up please?

Any advice would be great.

Cheers

Andy

I believe the auto engine had slightly diiferent camshafts, something about how they made there power through the rev range.

I've fitted an auto engine (or an engine from an auto I should say) into a normal manual van and it worked just fine. I couldn't tell any difference.

I'm breaking an auto at the moment, so if you want any of the transmission I have everything from the engine fowards. Be quick though, as I'm wanting to weight the van in soon.
