Oil drain plug for 1990 T25 1600 TD.

Post by deke »

Can anyone please help? The thread is stripped on my oil drain plug and I'm finding it impossible to locate a spare. Tried Main dealers, German Swedish, Volkspares ;no dice. The thread measures 16mm across and looks identical to the 12mm people keep presenting me with. The camper is in great nick, Geman and previously owned by a Doctor who seems to have kept it well serviced. For such a stupid thing it is now disabled and we go off on hols to France in 3 weeks or so we hope!! I have the old one to hand to compare. Thanks. Deke.

Take it to your nearest machine shop and get one made.

The drain hole on your sump was probably damaged at some stage and somebody drilled a bigger hole ...hence the non-standard plug.

thanks everyone. Actually they (main dealer) ordered part 068 103 193A for me but I went to get it ystrdy and it was a long bolt not at all like the other and with the wrong thread type The other plug they offered looked identical to mine but was 14mm (not 12mm as I said before). The thread on the 14mm and 16mm is the same. As far as the thread on the casing goes, I have reason to believe it to be OK as my mechanic fitted a plug from another car but it leaks because of the lack of a washer. My thoughts are 1) Maybe the other car bolt would work with a washer. I need to check whether it snugged down against the casing. 2) Maybe the 068 103 193A part is OK but they took delivery of the wrong one? It was like nothing I've ever seen and they wanted to charge over £8 for it!! 3) Respect for people who do major renovations. This must seem Mickey Mouse to them. 4) Thanks Elvis I assume it to be standard but beware of the 2 inch long one I mention above Mine measures 16mm across threads and 21mm from top of hexagon flat to bottom. Many thanks, Deke
